Some thoughts on photography:
It’s only been a few weeks since Christmas but already it feels like ages ago. For the first few days at the Glen I didn’t feel like taking photos as I have to be in the mood to do it properly, to do it obsessively. In my view there’s no point just taking a snap at the official moment, like the group shot. You generally have to take hundreds of shots in order to have a few worth sharing.
But I ended up with over 600 photos from our happy Christmas experience at Glen and it took me many hours (on a slow train from Serbia) to go through them, choose the decent ones for presentation in a slideshow (which has to be the best way for amateurs to present photos).
Moona was first to make a slideshow and I must say it is impressive. He is a good photographer and certainly has the best camera in the family, a big Sony. And he was the one who organised the group shot which was a helluva effort; getting 15 people into one place for a snapshot is not an easy task as people wander off constantly, others hide and pull faces and I always put a spanner in the works by snapping away with my own camera (there is a growing list of male relatives who shout at me for getting too close, and being too annoying, with my camera).

After a lot of trial and error I found You Tube to be the best place to present photos. Initially I would make slideshows on Power Point but I never worked out how to add music and however much I would compress the resulting file would be huge, clogging up people’s inboxes.
And then I discovered a programme that seems to be installed on every computer: Windows Movie Maker. It’s a basic version of a video editing programme and no doubt professionals would disapprove, as it is too simple for their highly developed brains, but for mere mortals like myself it is ideal. On this programme you just drag in your pics, slot them into the timeline thing (they call it a “storyboard” to make them sound more Hollywood), add sound and titles, and then upload it to You Tube. None of this is hard or I never would have been able to work it out on my own.
